Planned Giving
Including Yerkes in your estate plan, will, or trust is a meaningful way to support the center’s growth as a home for public exploration and discovery. Legacy gifts can take many forms, but all share a common goal: ensuring Yerkes will educate and inspire future generations. Yerkes’ unique mission requires uniquely visionary supporters, excited by the connections between science, nature, history and the arts.
Those who have made the generous decision to include Yerkes in their estate plans and shared their intention* with the center are inducted as life members of the Judy Bausch Society. Named in honor of Judith Bausch, who was inspired in 2022 to make the first planned gift to Yerkes after a career of more than forty years leading the research library, the Judy Bausch Society recognizes the foresight and generosity of those seeking to inspire future scientists, artists and explorers of every type.
The Yerkes Future Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization, and your gifts to Yerkes are tax deductible and/or reduce estate tax liabilities to the extent allowable by law. Yerkes’ Federal Tax ID Number is 83-0802129.
* Via a written declaration of intention or by sharing a copy of the relevant will or trust sections.

Legacy Gift Options
Designating Your Gift
Unrestricted gifts allow your money to go where it is needed most, supporting Yerkes Observatory’s mission and programs in the ways leadership sees as most impactful.
Purpose restricted gifts focus your money on a part of Yerkes’ mission most aligned with your interests. Gfts may be directed toward one (or more) of four areas:
• Education, Programs and Operations
• Landscape and Nature
• Astronomy and Science
• Building Restoration and Maintenance
Endowment Gifts allow those wishing to preserve the corpus of their legacy gift to grow over time, with a portion of future investment earnings supporting Yerkes. Those making gifts in excess of $100,000 may designate specialized restrictions for their legacy gift. If you are interested in supporting the Yerkes Endowment we ask that you or your representative consult with Yerkes leadership in order to ensure your intentions are understood and can be met.
Similarly, those who may be considering generously endowing a program, staff position or space at Yerkes are asked to consult with leadership in advance of finalizing their trust or estate language to ensure your intentions are understood and can be met.
* All gifts made to Yerkes are governed by a board-approved institutional
